Do a search for images using the term World War II (use two "I"s) Check out the pictures in UnitedStreaming. Make some observations about what you see in the photos. Go beyond "they are black and white". What do the images represent? Who is featured in the photos? What do you notice about the settings? Use your background knowledge about the second World War to make these observations.
Look here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11809733/ for images of the current Iraq War. Make observations about these photos. Again, avoid statements like "the pictures are in color". Be aware that some of these photos are quite graphic, but they are photos that have been featured on the network news.
Talk with a neighbor after you have a page of observations. Compile your lists of similarities and differences that you notice about these wars.
